Reflecting on my earliest memories, I’ve always known what I loved the most. I admired and appreciated the great entertainers who graced the world’s stages, as well as our television screens – singers, musicians, actors, dancers, and everyone else who contributed to the performing arts. Music was definitely at the top of my list. Yet, finding my true voice has been one of the hardest journeys of self-discovery that I have ever undertaken.
As an established jazz vocalist in Cape Town, South Africa, I was presented with various opportunities to perform in the United States, Europe and Mozambique. But, I still questioned who I was as an artist. I loved jazz, I loved Latin music from both Brazil and Cuba, I loved soul, I loved pop, and I also loved rock. The challenges that I encountered while exploring my musical identity was reflected in the music that I was writing at the time. This all changed when I decided to take the plunge and record my very first album here in Norway. The process has been rather interesting in many ways, as I’ve managed to embrace my innermost musical self while living my dream. At the same time, I've rekindled my passion for the different musical genres that inspired me to pursue a career as a songwriter and performing artist.
My life-long motto has been the wise words of Dr Seuss: “Be who you are & say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Remembering these words have helped me to remain true to myself. Now, I am very excited to be here; knowing who I am as a musician, and finally sharing a part of me with the rest of the world...
